Discussing Wishlist

I talked things over with Thunder and he has pretty much everything he needs.  We came up with a few ideas, though… Nylabone used to make this silly toy called a “Happy Moppy” - let me know if you find them! He likes an occasional bully stick (when I can find US ones) and squeeze cheese/spray stuffing to seal his stuffed kong toys. Gift cards for Pet Supplies Plus or Chewy He prefers soft toys and loves all treats! Mostly, he wants love.  Hugs and pets. ❤️

Snuffle, snuffle

Snuffle mats are great enrichment and act as slow feeders.  Found a washable one that has chamois-like material, and Thunder loves foraging for kibble and treats.  I’ve made them with polar fleece before, and even rolling fabric with goodies inside makes for a fun activity.

Therapeutic!

Dogs are good for us! I so missed having a companion - it’s great to chat with Thunder and watch him cock his head from side to side, listening intently as I ramble. He has gone with me a few times to visit my father and enjoy all the pats and love.  We’ve run errands and napped together.  He is showing me how much he likes to play ball and we plan to join in on class in the coming new year.  Love his sweet face!  ❤️

Life Is Good.

Thunder wonders who is on the phone talking to me and what sounds he is hearing in day to day life…his adorable head tilts make me smile.  He is settling in and getting used to routine, very comfy with his new beds and den spots.   I’m learning more about using sound, scent, and touch to give him more information as his vision is compromised (which really doesn’t bother him a bit!).  New experience for me, so he is training the trainer and opening a different world of thinking. He’s made some new friends and I’ve cleaned him up a bit - knew there was a handsome guy under that coat!  Looking ahead to our adventures, but glad to stay cozy for now.  Have a safe and warm week! ❤️

Thankful.

I feel blessed to have good things in life.  Family, friends, and new adventure ahead! Thunder was happy to meet new people and explore his new yard.  As I feel better, we’ll get to finish grooming.  Such a happy, sweet guy!  Reflecting on life today and counting the many blessings.   Happy Thanksgiving!🍁🦃❤️

Laying Low

Ah, Fall.  A beautiful time for crisp air, crunchy leaves, and sometimes the dreaded cold and flu season!  We are hunkered down bonding very well this week as I battle bronchitis nastiness.  Thunder has been very patient with me and trying out some new toys (motion activated, light and sound!).  I look forward to more energetic days ahead!  Love that he likes to snooze with me, and he often chooses to hang in his crate nearby with the door open.  Sweet boy! He has used me as a pillow, and also his dish or toys…wonder what Thunder is dreaming about!?!

Easy Does It…

In bringing any new dog into your home, one must be patient.  There is a 3-3-3 rule that outlines giving a dog a few days to settle in, a few weeks to learn you and your routines, and a few months to build a bond and become comfortable, letting their true selves shine and relax.  This could also reveal bad habits or issues of course, but it’s only fair to give them some time and grace in adjusting to a new home and people/pets. Well, I’m trying!  He’s guiding me as far as showing me what he is ready for and what to take slowly. He was ready to meet Milo the young Golden and only gave a couple appropriate complaints when surprised. Milo in turn learned to be respectful very quickly and adjust his approach.  It was a beautiful day to enjoy toys in the yard! He will go on short outings and return home, and meet new people gradually.  We swung by the vet’s office just to establish paper record and pop on the scale.  He got a small treat and some pets and ...
